WHAT IS LAKSHADWEEP CONTROVERSY ?
Hey howdy, welcome to Lakshadweep islands.
Today let's discuss some of the recent amendments which were done in Lakshadweep. Which made us ponder on this issue.
In recent days people are much concerned about the future of the Marvel Universe of flora and fauna that is Lakshadweep islands. After passing the 3 main laws they are
1.The Prevention of Anti Social Activities Regulations (PASA)
2..The Lakshadweep Panchayat Regulation 2021
3.The Lakshadweep Animal Preservation Regulations, 2021.
Gist of Lakshadweep
Lakshadweep is one of the few marvels left untouched for the progress of the industrialization arena.
Lakshadweep is a group of 36 islands known for its glory of exotic and sun-kissed beaches.
The capital of Lakshadweep is Kavaratti. This island is located about 300 km from the Kerala coast. The prime island is Minicoy and those of the amindivi group.
So, the administration of jurisdiction comes under the Kerala high court.
The name of Lakshadweep in Malayan and Sanskrit means 'lakh islands'. Which is of a piece of 32 sq. Km.
It is composed of 12 atolls, 3 reefs, 5 submerged banks, and 10 inhabited islands. The main occupation of the habitants is fishing, coconut cultivation, and coir twisting and in recent times the tourism sector is too emerging.
Lakshadweep has a tropical climate and it has an average temperature of 27°C /32°C April and May are the hottest months of the year. For tourism months from March to October are the ideal time to visit.
According to the 2011 census, Lakshadweep has a population of 64,429 people. More than 93% are indigenous are Muslims and a majority of them belong to the Shafi school of the Sunni sect.
Malayalam is widely spoken in all the islands except Minicoy where here they speak Mahl, which is written in Dhivehi script and is spoken in the Maldives too.
According to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes list, 1956, the inhabitants of Lakshadweep and both of whose parents were born on these islands are treated as scheduled tribes. So as per this
There is no scheduled caste in this union territory.
Now, let's see what are the recent laws which have passed in Lakshadweep.
1.The Prevention of Anti Social Activities Regulations (PASA)
Which is more familiar as a goonda act that aims to nip criminal activities in the state. But to our surprise, Lakshadweep has the lowest crime rate in India. On the other hand, some of the residents say that the crime rate here is high but the only reason for it is that they don't complain in the police station.
Apart from this, what is the reason for implementing this act! Is to curb local residents to do atrocities!
2.The Lakshadweep Panchayat Regulation 2021.
This precisely guides that, it restricts people with more than 2 children from becoming members of the gram panchayat.
We find that this act is present in some of the states viz, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Karnataka. This too not really necessary because being a very small population what's the need to do so! Which is around 64,429.
Addressing this issue Lakshadweep administrator Praful Patel said,
“Why is no one talking about the progressive provisions in the panchayat regulation? It will pave the way for upliftment and empowerment of women.”
3.The Lakshadweep Animal Preservation Regulations, 2021
Which describes the ban of cow, calf, bull illegal slaughter in the state. Which prescribes that without certification from the concerned authorities.
And also it seeks the ban of transportation and storage of beef.
Here, around 96.5% of the population are Muslims.
The government is saying that they want to protect milch animals. And it's claiming that there is no such thing to play with the Muslim's beliefs.
On the proposal to allow the alcohol sales and consumption in islands. This alcohol availability is only for the tourism sector.
At last, the government sent their proposal to the home ministry for consent. When the president signs on it .Then it will be applicable on the island.
The government claims that they are doing it solely for the development of this island, to make it another Maldives. on it . The Ministry is scrutinizing these acts.
As per the administration too, in Lakshadweep, it is governed mainly by Ias, Ips, and other officers but now it has changed to the political arena. By putting the side of public bureaucrats. With an absurd reason.
How the people tolerate this tyranny of the government. Some say that it's a hidden conspiracy theory for doing meaningless and reason-less acts, which are Precisely not necessary for its development.
Finally, what do you think about this theory? Is it really necessary for Lakshadweep? Let me know in the comments.
