ABOUT GANDHIAN IDEOLOGY
Once in a thousand years, a few people walk on the soil of the earth and leave their marks forever.
They make such a huge impact on humanity which is unmeasurable by the human standard.
The chief advocate of Satyagraha and Ahimsa. whose life itself is a great inspiration and one of the greatest minds of our times.
Who is Mahatma Gandhi the ever-born freedom fighter, politician, and great Philanthropist. As well as a profound philosopher.
The simple ideology and philosophy of Gandhi made him a worldwide leader to admire and follow him. Which is the political ideology of Gandhi, as Gandhism.
Being a "Father of Nation" Gandhian philosophy carried forward the light torch for other freedom fighters to follow him.
which has been the underlying message of Rig Veda as "Truth is one but the sages call it by many names".
GANDHISM
Which itself proclaims that there is no such thing as
"Gandhism" I do not want to leave any sect after me. I do not claim to have originated any new principle or doctrine. I have simply tried in my way to apply the eternal truths to our daily life and problems...The opinions I have formed and the conclusions I have arrived at are not final. I may change them tomorrow. I have nothing new to teach the world. Truth and non-violence are as old as the hills."
The Lolstoys book "the kingdom of God is with you " This book had a great deep influence on the thought process of Gandhi.
Making a mark with other ideologies of philosophy his approach towards an ideology is completely different. He emphasizes more on practical idealism not just ideology which is not pragmatic.
Some of his valor thoughts,
SATYAGRAHA AND NON VIOLENCE
The two pillars of Gandhism are truth and nonviolence. These pillars were discovered by reading various great Epic books like Bhagavad Gita, Jainism, Buddhism. Bible, John Ruskin, and Krishna Gokhale, and others.
Satyagraha is formed by two Sanskrit words called Satya means "Truth" and Agraha means "seek or Desire", which refers to being truthful in one's action and speech. Mahatma Gandhi said, "Truth is a far more powerful weapon than any weapon of mass destruction".
Every year October 2nd is not only celebrated as Gandhi's birthday but his footprints were throughout the world. So to remember his ideologies the International Day for nonviolence is celebrated on his birth anniversary to pay a mark of respect towards him.
ON SWARAJ
The concept analog to freedom in Indian political thought is Swaraj the term Swaraj incorporates within it towards Swa (self) and Raj (rule). It can be understood to mean both the rule of the self and the rule over the self.
It is the understanding of Swaraj As a rule over the self that was highlighted by Mahatma Gandhi in his work Hind Swaraj where he States "it is Swaraj when we learn to rule ourselves".
ON SWACHATA
Gandhiji was given much emphasis on cleanliness or swachata. He used to be called "swachhata hind Seva".
The recent Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the greatest cleanliness drive of India, aims to make a clean India which is driven by Gandhian principles, to make India clean and green. Because when our surroundings are clean then we are clean.
GANDHIAN CONSTITUTION
Due to Gandhi's epic ideas, in the period of Independence, some profound leaders felt that his ideas had to be stored for our future generations. So, they started to work on the "Gandhian Constitution".
The Gandhian Constitution of Free India was published in 1946. Unlike what the title suggests, M.K. Gandhi did not write the document. Shriman Narayan Agarwal, a Gandhian economist, drafted it based on Gandhi’s ideological thoughts.
The Gandhian Constitution was a 60-page document divided into 22 chapters that included ‘Basic Principles’, ‘Fundamental Rights and Duties’, ‘Provincial Government’, ‘Central Government’, and the ‘Judiciary’. It was mostly descriptive and explanatory.
RELEVANCE OF GANDHIAN PHILOSOPHY IN THE SOCIETY
His ideas have provided a launchpad for many great deeds viz,
In its inception, the Constituent Assembly rejected the idea of Panchayati Raj. Nonetheless, due to his great indomitable thoughts, a provision (Article 40) for Panchayati Raj was placed in the non-justiciable Directive Principles of State Policy along with other Gandhian-inspired provisions on alcohol prohibition (Article 47) and cottage industries (Article 43).
His ideas were a role model to many of the successful people in the society around the world under the leadership of people like Martin Luther King in the United States, Nelson Mandela in South Africa, and Aung San Suu Kyi in Myanmar, which is an eloquent testimony to the continuing relevance of Mahatma Gandhi.
Gandhian philosophy is like a rainbow, where each color is different, yet they make a harmonious pattern. Let's all inculcate these ideas in our daily routine.
